Development of a new technology for monitoring rainfall with the implementation of a new organisational system for farms for managing and collecting detailed information on rain fields in real time.
Farming requires knowing in detail the distribution of rain in order to manage irrigation and interventions on crops, while the distribution of rain fi elds is totally unpredictable and cannot even be correctly represented using a traditional rain gauge network.
Objective of the project will be to make a rainfall monitoring network based on high-resolution radar technology and space and time parameters: two low-power X-bandwidth mini-radars will be installed on the fi eld and integrated in a network dedicated to 2D representation of the rain fi elds above the concerned farming area over time. Data will be transmitted on the cellular telephone network and will be collected by a specifi cally programmed centre, processed and made available on the web in real time.
